ATR 42-500 Specs, Interior, Cockpit, and Price

ATR 42-500 Specs, Interior, Cockpit, and Price – ATR 42-500 is a short-range regional turboprop aircraft with a capacity of 42 passengers produced by Avions de Transport Regional (ATR), a joint venture between French aerospace company Aérospatiale and Italian aviation conglomerate Aeritalia. ATR 42-500 aircraft were produced by the company between 1994 and 2012.

Aerospatiale and Aeritalia initially made the ATR series for local flights. The ATR 42 was the first series to be launched in October 1981. The first prototype went on air on August 16, 1984, received airworthiness certification from France and Italy in September 1984 and in December 1984 began operating by airlines. Despite many improvements, only in 1995 was launched ATR 42-500 with a more powerful engine than the previous variant, 6-bladed propeller and a computerized cockpit.

ATR 42-500 Specs

ATR 42-500 has a length of 22.67 m, a height of 7.59 m, and a wing span of 24.57 m. This aircraft has an empty weight of 11,250 kg and a maximum weight at take-off of 18,600 kg. It has a maximum take-off weight of 41,005 lbs and a maximum landing weight of 40,344 lbs.

The ATR 42-500 aircraft is driven by two Hamilton blades with a six-bladed Hamilton Sundstrand 568F propeller electronic control. Blades are all counterweighted. Pinner is made of aluminum, while the engine cover is made of carbon / Nomex sandwich or Kevlar / Nomex sandwich. Engine intake is in Kevlar / Nomex sandwiches with a rigid carbon coating.

A pneumatic de-icing system is provided for engine air intake, edge leading edges, and horizontal tailplane edges. The electric anti-icing system is installed for the propeller blades, windshield and horn.

The landing mechanism on the ATR 42-500 aircraft is equipped with a hydraulically retractable tricycle. Landing landing feet are provided by Messier, wheels and brakes by Dunlop, anti-slip control by Hydro-Aire cranes and tires by Michelin (or optional Goodyear tires for operation on non-paved runways). Magnaghi's hydraulic system provides landing gear retraction and also serves other systems on the plane.

ATR 42-500 Engine

The ATR 42-500 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PWC 127Es turboprop engines capable of producing power in maximum continuous conditions of 2,315 kW (3,148 shp) and mechanical power of 1,765 kW (2,400 shp) for each engine. This machine is equipped with 6 blades blades. This aircraft has a maximum speed of 563 km / h (304 miles / hour) with a cruise range of 1,850 km.

To support such large engine power, the ATR 42-500 is equipped with two integral fuel tanks that can carry 5,700 liters of fuel. Cruise speeds vary greatly during flights, during climbing, sailing, and descent. In addition, there is a speed limit of 250 knots under 10,000 feet which will have an impact on the average speed for shorter flights which is greater than longer flights.

ATR 42-500 Cabin and Interior

The ATR 42-500 cabin is 31.3 feet long, 8.3 feet wide and 6.3 feet high, giving a total cabin volume of 1,631.9 cubic feet. With its large cabin, the ATR 42-500 can carry up to 50 passengers in a four-aisle configuration. Standard configuration includes two cargo compartments.

In addition to the standard configuration, ATR 42-500 can be specially configured to accommodate the specific needs of the operator. The ATR 42 cabin is equipped with a quick replacement kit that has the ability to reconfigure the cabin in 30 minutes to carry ATR special containers using a standard front cargo door.

Front standard cargo doors of 1.52 m × 1.27 m can be replaced with 2.95 m × 1.8 m large cargo doors to carry standard load unit (ULD) container devices, such as LD3 and 88 in × 108 in containers.

ATR 42-500 Cockpit and Avionics

The ATR 42-500 cockpit is equipped with Rockwell Collins TTR 921 radar for ACAS II. Honeywell Primus 660 weather radar is displayed in four colors on the electronic horizontal situation indicator (EHSI). Weather radar can also be used in MAP mode to display obstructions on land. Honeywell MARK VIII is enhanced with a ground proximity warning system (E-GPWS) integrating warning and terrain warning display, plus cleaning the terrain floor in an electronic flight information system (EFIS).

The ATR 42-500 navigation system is based on the Honeywell Trimble HT1000 global navigation satellite sensor (GNSS). The HT1000 GNSS system is combined with an automatic pilot, electronic flight instrumentation system (EFIS) and with a VHF omnidirectional radio starting steering guide with distance measurement equipment (VOR / DME) data.

ATR 42-500 Price and Orders

The price of the latest ATR 42-500 aircraft is around US $ 12.1 Million. At present, 343 ATR 42-500 have been ordered and 336 have been sent to every airline in the world.
